POSITION OVERVIEW
In full uniform and under the supervision of the Chef/Kitchen Manager, Assistant Cook, or Senior Center Director, the Kitchen Aide assists in food preparation, food service, customer service, packaging, and cleanup.
 
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
  • FLSA non-exempt, unionized position.
  • Full-time, 35-hour workweek.
  • Monday to Friday.
  • 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, with half hour unpaid lunch break.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Food preparation and food service.
  • Promoting appropriate customer service to seniors, guests and staff.
  • Maintaining order of food areas.
  • Cleaning dining room, kitchen (including cupboards, shelves, racks, work surfaces, cooking equipment, dishes, and utensils).
  • Clean large and small appliances, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Operation of the dishwasher machine (In/Before food service at lunch time washing pots, pans, any build-up at the dirty dishware area; storing them in a clean, sanitary and orderly manner).
  • Perform other related tasks at the direction of the kitchen manager/chef or senior center director.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess basic kitchen knowledge.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for your shift.
  • Ability to read and speak English.
  • Must have or willing to obtain NYC Food Protection Certificate.
  • Documentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.
 
COMPENSATION:
  • Paid at $19 per hour.
  • Eligible for salary increases under the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
